So do either of you use them? I have started using pulsar plats with Hiigaran and they have made a huge differance in the early game. Basicly rather then buiding any fighters, vets, frig, or capitals (other then research station, crew station, and possibly carrier) I just build lots of mobile refineries to take care of fighters and lots of pulsar platforms to deal with vetts and frigs.
I build 20 plusar plats and nothing that the expert computer sent could touch me.

Do you build the platforms geared against smaller ships too? I really like this idea, especially for Hilgaran. Have you tried it with Vagur yet? So, do the platforms help balance out the slow start for the Hilgaran?

I use primaraly the pulsar plats since they work against vetts and frigs...then the mobile refineries take care of fighters. I sometimes build Ion plats too depending on how the game is going.
The Vagyr plats are not as good IMO since they only have the gun and missile plats the gun are just ok and and the missile are two slow to hit the targets.
I do think that the plats help to keep the Hiigaran alive past the begening of the game.

Given this info, perhaps Hilgaran may be able to stand on their own in PVP (doubtful, but hopeful).

I am not sure how well plats will work in PvP...being virtualy stadic they are very limited and that is not usualy a good thing in PvP

Ty has pointed out in the past that platforms, if not deployed, will stay with your mothership as it moves. This is very much to the advantage for Hilgaran, since Hilgaran works well with a mobile mommy ship. The speed of the platforms is based upon the mother's speed (also a very good thing).

Umm...yes, they do move with the mommy ship.. But, I don't remember if the speed is based on the Motherships speed or not. Can you confirm this for sure, with a Mommyship fully speed upgraded?
I know that Tango mines are NOT upgraded in speed = to the Mothership, so with a speed enhanced Mothership, she will out run her defenses. (well, I know this from complex 4.2, haven't tried 5.2 yet with these)
~G-Rant, So what module slot are you sacrificing to use the Platform module (Since building the platform construction option takes up a module slot on your mothership)?

Well this is how I do it....
I start by building moduals in this order on Mommy ship:
Harvet Control Mod Defense Control Mod Plat Mod Fire Mod
Then after I build my carrier I build a harvest mod on the carrier, and I recycle my harvest mod on the mother ship and then build either a drive mod or a hyperspace mod on the mommy ship.

UPDATE Platforms in the new version of Complex..do NOT move with your mothership like they did in 4.2
However, that aside, their still very nice. The Gun platforms can be upgraded with an 'anti-missle' technology, and work at shooting down incoming missiles. (which is a Vagyr mainstay weaponry)
As far as stats... A Gun platform has about 5 times more offensive power as a Mobile Refinery (still anty fighter though) AND about 5 times less armor as a Mobile refinery. Refineries of course can generate RUs, and Gun platforms can shoot down missiles. The RU generation is more important than the anti-missile capability, at least early on... but, Refineries cost 1k to build, and gun platforms cost 600.

If you are playing against Vayger then building some gun plats to support the pulsar plats is critical...the anti missile capibility is the only reason to build hiigaran gun plats.
