as the resident expert here... ehem:
you can get a pinata at any fine hispanic food retailer such as Fiesta or Danal's.
as for what should be inside them... basically any sort of cheap, off-brand, individually wrapped candy that you can find that doesn't melt (ie no chocolates or taffy). Also, hard pralines and chicklets are a must.
I would advise anything really small or easily breakable. My grandmother used pixie sticks once. there were ants covering her yard for weeks.
